Saved at the age of four, Pastor Troy Calvert spent most of his days at Fairfax Baptist Temple (FBT) in Northern Virginia under the care and guidance of his father, Dr. Bud Calvert.
Upon graduating from Bob Jones University in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts in Christian Missions and a fluency in the Spanish language, he began work at FBT where he soon founded and pastored the Templo Bautista de Fairfax. Under Pastor Calvert’s leadership, this self-supporting “church within a church” grew to over 250 members and is still thriving today.
In 1990, Pastor Calvert married Rebecca (Becky) Hembree, and they have since had four children - Raquel, Nate, David, and Julia. God divinely chose to strengthen their family and ministry when, in December of 1998, Becky suffered a near fatal car accident and was given a less than 10 percent chance of living. Due to the prayers of God’s people and His miracle-working power, she recovered – a testimony to God’s grace.
Becky Calvert is an accomplished pianist and singer, accompanies the services at FBT each week. In addition to playing the piano and being mother to four children, Becky has recorded five vocal CDs – Tell Me the Story, Declare His Glory, God is Good, Bueno es Dios, and You Chose Me. She has also had a few of her choral arrangements published.
In 2006, Pastor Calvert took the helm at FBT when his father, Dr. Bud Calvert, retired to become Pastor Emeritus. Along with his wife Becky, Pastor Calvert is faithfully carrying forward the mission of Fairfax Baptist Temple to Glorify God and Evangelize the World. Under Dr. Bud Calvert’s leadership, FBT had the joy of sending out 33 church planters to start Fundamental Independent Baptist churches. Pastor Calvert continued that legacy with the thirty-fourth church planter from FBT beginning a new church in 2008.
In addition to his responsibilities at FBT, Pastor Calvert serves on the Board of Directors of the Old Dominion Association of Church Schools. He has preached in a dozen foreign countries – primarily Latin America – earned a Master of Ministry from Bob Jones University in 1998 and was honored with a Doctor of Divinity degree from BJU in 2007.
Pastor and Becky enjoy spending time with their four children, traveling at home and abroad, and fellowshipping with the FBT family. In addition to church ministry books, he enjoys reading missionary biographies, and he has yet to find a cup of coffee that he didn't like.
