Frequently Asked Questions

1.      Where are you located?

Fairfax Baptist Temple is located at the corner of Burke Lake Rd. and the Fairfax County Parkway in Fairfax County, VA.  Our address is 6401 Missionary Ln., Fairfax Station, VA 22039 Phone: 703-323-8100

2.    What are your service times?

Sunday Bible Study Fellowship – 9:00 a.m.

Sunday Worship Service – 10:00 a.m.

Sunday Evening Service – 5:00 p.m.

Wednesday Evening Service – 7:00 p.m.

3.      Is there a Sunday School class for me?

We have a host of Bible Study Fellowship classes to meet the needs of every person who comes to FBT.  There are classes for young children, teens, young married couples, parents with children still at home, empty nesters, senior saints, single, or single again.  Regardless of where you are in life, there’s a place for you at Fairfax Baptist Temple.

4.      What opportunities do you have for children?

Our children’s Bible Study Fellowship program incorporates times of fun and games with teaching from God’s Word and scripture memorization.  During our Sunday morning service, children in 1st – 6th grades participate in their own Junior Church that includes a time of music and preaching geared towards their age group.  On Wednesday nights, children in grades K4 – 6th grade can participate in our AWANA clubs and enjoy a time of fun and scripture memorization.  Our Master’s Kids’ Choir practices on Sunday afternoons before church and prepares for children’s programs held throughout the year.  As you can see, there’s no lack of opportunity for your children at FBT!

5.      What opportunities do you have for adults?

With over fifty ministries available, there’s something for everyone at FBT.  For example you can: sing in the choir, play in the orchestra, serve as an usher or greeter, join us on weekly visitation, care for babies in the nursery, teach a Bible Study Fellowship class, serve coffee on Sunday mornings, work in the bookstore, run the lights, sound, or video during a service, work a security detail, serve on a grass cutting team, plant flowers, decorate the church, serve in special events and meals, go to a shooting range with other men, enjoy the fellowship of other women.  As you can see there’s no lack of opportunity for you at FBT!

6.      What’s your nursery like?

At FBT our desire is to things decently and in order.  This principle extends to our nursery ministry where our goal is to provide a safe, comfortable, and loving environment for your child.  Age-specific classes divide the children among infants, one year olds, and two’s and three’s.  Security is a top priority.  Parents dropping off their children will have their picture taken and contact information entered into our computers.  A label with your picture and child’s information will then be placed on the back of your child’s shirt.  When picking up your child, they can only be released to the person who matches the picture.  Our security teams are constantly patrolling our nursery and children’s area looking for anything or anyone out of the ordinary.

7.      What’s the Sunday morning schedule like?

Sunday morning begins with Bible Study Fellowship classes at 9:00 a.m.  Be sure to arrive a few minutes early and enjoy a fresh cup of coffee in the main lobby or downstairs outside our adult classrooms.  Classes end at 9:45 a.m. as people make their way to the auditorium for our 10:00 a.m. service.

8.      Can I meet the Pastor?

Yes!  At the end of our morning service, Pastor Calvert and his wife Becky would be happy to greet you in our Parlor located off of the main lobby.  There will also be other members of FBT who would love to talk to you more about FBT and help answer your questions.

9.      How should I dress?

At Fairfax Baptist Temple there’s no specific dress code for those who attend.  However, we believe that the Bible teaches a principle of modesty.  You’ll find most people dress in more traditional Sunday dress when they come.  However, our desire is for you to feel welcome when you join us for worship at FBT.

10.      Where should I park?

Visitor parking is available at the front of the building near the entrance to our children’s wing.  Drive up Missionary Lane toward the main church entrance and turn left.  You’ll see signs indicating Visitor Parking located on the light posts.

11.    What are your accommodations for the disabled?

We have designated handicapped parking along the front of our building next to the sidewalk as well as down in our lower level parking near the Academy entrance.  All of our facilities are handicap accessible and there is an elevator for those who need to go between our upper and lower levels.

12.    What are the services like?

At Fairfax Baptist Temple our desire is to honor the Lord and have worship services that give glory and praise to His name.  As such, you’ll find our services full of uplifting music including traditional hymns and praise songs, choir and orchestra specials, soloists and special groups.  There’s always a time of announcements, an offering, plus special times of recognition or emphasis like baby dedications or servant’s heart awards.  Everything is done to prepare hearts for the preaching of God’s Word by Pastor Calvert or any number of special speakers we host throughout the year.

13.    Will I be singled out during the service?

Our desire is never to embarrass anyone during one of our services at Fairfax Baptist Temple.  If you’re a visitor, then you’ll simply be asked to raise your hand so that we can welcome you and give you a visitor packet.  We’d love for you to fill out the information card inside the packet so that our Pastor could drop you a note or give you a call.

14.    Am I expected to give money during the offering?

At Fairfax Baptist Temple we practice the Biblical principle of Stewardship by the giving of tithes and offerings.  However, as a visitor we don’t expect you to participate in our offering.  Our desire is for the Lord to speak to your heart and for our service to be a blessing and encouragement to you.

15.    Where can I get information about your Christian school?

If you visit on a Sunday or Wednesday, we’d be happy to provide you with some general information about our Academy or put you in touch with someone who could answer a few questions.  During the week, you are welcome to contact the Academy office to schedule a meeting with our Academy Administrator.  More information can also be found at our Academy website http://www.fbtministries.org/education/academy/education.htm

16.    How can I get a copy of a sermon?

Sermon CD orders can be placed at the conclusion of our Sunday services and will be ready for pick up the following Sunday.  You can also listen to our sermons online at our website.

17.    I’m new and would like to know more about FBT.  How can I learn more?

If you’re a visitor to Fairfax Baptist Temple or have been coming for a while and would like to learn more about our ministry, we periodically conduct an Intro to FBT class that meets for six weeks during our regular Bible Study Fellowship hour on Sundays at 9:00 a.m.  The class is limited in size to provide for discussion and is taught by our Pastor and a couple of other men in the church.  It covers our church history, constitution, ministries, spiritual gifts, and ways that you can get involved in the ministry of Fairfax Baptist Temple.

18.    Do you support missionaries?

Absolutely!  At Fairfax Baptist Temple we believe that the heartbeat of the local church is missions and church planting.  Our mission at FBT is to Glorify God and Evangelize the World.  As such, FBT supports approximately 280 missionaries around the world.  Missions conferences are held twice each year, and the first Wednesday of each month is reserved for a missionary speaker during our evening service.

19.    Do you have a Spanish outreach?

Yes!  Our Hispanic ministry – Templo Bautista de Fairfax – was started twenty-one years ago by Pastor Calvert.  Now led by Pastor Jack Ramos with an attendance of over 250, TBF meets each Sunday and Wednesday in our lower level Fellowship Hall.  Bible Study Fellowship classes for all ages, a nursery, children’s programs, and activities for the entire family are available from the “church within a church.”

20.    Are your services interpreted for the deaf?

Yes! All of our services and special events are interpreted for the deaf. Additionally, we have a hearing assisted system for those who need that capability.

21.    How can I get involved at FBT?

The first step is to join Fairfax Baptist Temple and discover what your spiritual gifts are.  Once you know them or if you already know what they are, then talk to one of our Ministerial Staff, Deacons, or your Bible Study Fellowship teacher about what interests you and where you’d like to get plugged in.  There’s something for everyone at Fairfax Baptist Temple and our desire is to encourage you in your walk with the Lord and service to Him!
